Ubisoft have officially announced their brand new IP Roller Champions on their E3 2019 show. It's a 3 vs 3, free to play roller derby title, scheduled to arrive in early 2020. The alpha is currently up and running until 14 June 2019, on PC.
The rumours were true. Ubisoft indeed have a brand new IP and just like earlier revealed, it's called Roller Champions. It's a roller derby inspired title which supports up to six players in three vs three mode.
If you're unfamiliar with roller derby rules, players race around the track trying to keep the ball and the more laps you complete with balls in your possession, the more points you get once you toss it through the rings. If it happens that the opposing team knock you down and grab the ball, the lap counter will reset.
Roller Champions will be free to play title, meaning that microtransactions are probably Ubisoft's plan for monetisation. The devs confirmed that players will be able to create and customise their own characters. Also, the game will offer a lot of different gear that is also fully customizable. There's also a mention of fans' outfits and special animations so it's safe to say that Roller Champions will be packed with microtransactions.
The game reminds a lot of Rocket League with its graphics style and overall design and if it looks like your cup of tea, you can try it out on PC until 14 June 2019. As for the release date, there is nothing specific at the moment but Ubisoft said players should get their hands on the game in early 2020.
In the official description, Ubisoft mentions a progression system that will allow players to advance through the ranks as they rise from streets to big stadiums while they win matches and gain fans on their way to fame.
