Outlast developer Red Barrels have announced a brand new survival-horror game named The Outlast Trials. While it may seem that the new title will be VR, the devs confirmed it's actually a co-op experience.
Outlast, one of the best survival-horror series that you can play at the moment is getting another, full-fledged title named The Outlast Trials. The developer Red Barrel announced the new game via their social media and while many players feared that the game will be VR since the artwork strongly suggests that way, the devs confirmed that's not the case.
The Outlast Trials will actually be a co-op game that can also be played solo. Unfortunately, specific details about the gameplay and story or how many players will co-op support, have not been revealed by the devs.
The game will be set in the Cold War era, meaning that it could take place between the 1940s all the way to 1991. The devs also confirmed it's set in the Outlast universe but did not say how or if it will tie to previous games. The game is still in early production as expected. More precisely, it just left the concept stage.
Here's is the Red Barrels' announcement in full:
"Welcome to The Outlast Trials. The Red Barrels team is excited to announce our latest project in the Outlast universe. Set in the era of the Cold War, The Outlast Trials will allow players to face the horrors that await by themselves or with fellow test subjects."
Red Barrels co-founder David Chateauneuf said that the team is currently focusing on content creation, variety and gore, now that they've put their proof of concept to bed.
The Outlast Trials has no confirmed supported platforms or release date and hopefully, we'll hear more about these in the near future.
