It seems that PUBG's community has got what it asked for but not what it deserved, because the newly added Event Pass is here to stay and with an unchanged price, even though PUBG Corp have announced several changes to the system.
Daily XP limit has been increased from 80 to 120 and the minimum play time to get XP is down from 5 to 2.5 minutes. The base XP payment for playing time is now measured every 2.5 minutes, instead of 5.
PUBG Event Pass will now require 2 minutes of play time to count towards mission progress, down from previous 5 minutes. To be fair, surviving for that much is easier said than done, something which PUBG Corp would know had they played their own game.
Speaking of easier said than done, the mission to reach top 3 without killing anyone now requires two kills or less. PUBG's Duo and Squad games progress is correctly updated upon winning or losing the round.
PUBG Corp have thrown in aviator crates into random ones, making the probabilities of getting free and paid crates about the same. As you can imagine, this opened up, or shall we say renewed many a debate.
The hordes of PUBG faithful had been clamouring for a system similar to Fortnite's, where they'd introduce some sort of sense of progression through the game. Well that and breaking the tediousness of kneeling in the corn for half a round.
Unfortunately, Greene and Co ended up using only the lucrative parts, at least as far as player rewards go. It seem as if they simply forced yet another paying method onto an already money-hungry model, which doesn't really exude fairness. Needless to say, you can't earn PUBG's Event Pass in-game, no matter what you do.
It's pretty strange seeing PUBG resort to this business model though, seeing as how Activision and EA are slowly backing away from it. Could it be that PUBG Corp are really going into Brendan Greene's brainchild with the Tony Soprano mindset of let's just milk it dry? I'd hate to think they are, even if it does increasingly seem like it.
