The console developer confirmed PlayStation Plus will begin to dial down its releases of PS4-only games in its Monthly Games and Game Catalog beginning in January 2026.
Instead of dropping, these titles will simply become added in an intermittent basis, not appearing regularly in service. The most important reason for such a transition is an increased subscriber base of PlayStation gamers who have upgraded to PS5.
Most of its subscribers, according to Sony, prefer to redeem and access PS5 titles, and hence, it is only logical to transition towards supporting newer titles' current generation.
That being said, titles that can run both PS4 and PS5 will not be taken out, and PS4 owners will not miss any new additions to the collection.
Any PS4 titles, in fact, that have already been redeemed will not go, and hence, no player will miss any older titles.
For Premium and Extra subscribers, it will not work in the same manner. PS4 titles will stay in the Game Catalog, but will possibly be removed during monthly refresh, dependant on whatever new titles join the service.
That is, PS4 titles will be in service, but will become less regularly available over a shorter timeframe.
In the long run, not even with this transition, will Sony drop PS4 exclusives altogether, but will no longer make them a priority in future years.
Players will no longer have access to PS4 games, but its direction will increasingly head towards PS5 titles in future years.
