Ndemic Creations' hugely successful pandemic simulator, Plague Inc, has been removed from the Chinese app store. Developers are at a bit of a loss since the supposed explanation for removal didn't shine much light on the reason why it happened.
Plague Inc has proven to be successful over the course of its existence and has seen a spike in popularity when Coronavirus hit. Ndemic's efforts to make the game accurate has caused the developers to be worried about the players mistaking the game for a scientific model , prompting them to warn everyone about the potential problems this could cause.
Not everyone seems to have such a high opinion of Plague Inc though and it appears that Cyberspace Administration of China is not among the fans. Ndemic Creations posted an update on their blog , notifying the players in China that the game will no longer be available there.
According to their statement, Ndemic are pretty much in the dark when it comes to the reason for the game's removal. They have apparently only been informed that Plague Inc "includes content that is illegal in China as determined by the Cyberspace Administration of China".
The term "illegal" is rather broad and could mean several things but the observers of the situation have so far speculated that the removal could indeed be instigated by the Coronavirus outbreak as it originated in Wuhan, China.
Another theory is that the Fake News update could be the reason for removal but considering the update launched in December 2019, it is rather odd that it took this long for Plague Inc to disappear from the app store.
Ndemic reassured the players that they are looking for a way to get the game back into Chinese market, with attempting to make contact with the Cyberspace Administration of China being the first priority.
Meanwhile, Plague Inc will resume outside of the mainland China normally.
