Markus "Notch" Persson is the man behind one of the all-time most popular games in the world, Minecraft. It was later bought out and now it seems like Microsoft decided to remove any references pointing towards the controversial developer.

Minecraft's latest update has apparently removed references such as "Made by Notch" and "The Work of Notch!" from the game even though this wasn't mentioned in any notes or any announcements by Microsoft. He is still credited as the creator of the game in the credits but the splash screens no longer mention him.

Just like the splashes suggested, Notch is the person who made Minecraft but Microsoft bought all the rights in 2014 for $2.5 billion. The creator, later on, went to post controversial tweets and while they weren't outright connected to Minecraft, it is not hard to imagine Microsoft didn't want the drama on their doorstep which could be a possible reason for the reference removal.

Despite the possible controversy, Microsoft could have on their hands if they didn't remove the splashes, the game has brought them more good in the long run than what could be put off by Notch's odd tweets or the ones of the more political nature .

Then again, it is not hard to imagine someone who made a fortune on a game that is about building things imagine certain walls would be effective deterrents, although it would most likely be much more costly in real life. Creepers might just run up to a wall in Minecraft and explode but real life tends to be a tad more complicated.

So far, Microsoft didn't offer any official explanation on the absence of Notch references though and it remains to be seen whether they will try to remove him from credits. While it looks ridiculous to remove the game's creator at the first glance, we don't know the nature of the contract between Microsoft and Notch so it's not entirely out of the picture.

If that were to happen though, it would be nice to have some context on why the tech giant decided to remove the splashes in the first place.
