Today - 16 March 2020 - marks the 10th anniversary of the release of Metro 2033. Developed by 4A Games as their debut title, Metro 2033's launch ten years ago has played its part in setting into motion a series of shooter games based on the novels written by Dmitry Glukhovsky.
In celebration of this milestone, Metro 2033 developers will host a number of special events, content and competitions for the entire year. The events will also serve as a thank you to the game's fans and the community that enjoys the games, lore and books.
The special events, content and contests will be carried out via Deep Silver's and 4A Games' social media and community channels.
The announcement post revealed that the first event of the year will be a stream of Deep Silver Plays Metro 2033. The steam featured a giveaway that awarded three fans who tuned in with 3 Spartan Editions. You can check out Deep Silver's Twitch channel and rewatch the stream right through here .
Metro 2033's story is based on Dmitry Glukhovsky's novel of the same name. The game is set in the ruins of Moscow after a nuclear war has taken place. The war has forced the survivors to take refuge in the underground Metro tunnels. Players take on the role of Artyom, a man who must save his home station from the threats prowling within the Metro.
The sequel, Metro: Last Light, was released in 2013. The game doesn't follow the storylines laid out in Glukhovsky's book Metro 2034. Another sequel, Metro Exodus, was released in 2019.
