The League of Legends World Championship is the annual professional League of Legends world championship tournament hosted by Riot Games and is the culmination of each season.
For years now, the LoL Worlds has had the same format of games played, with teams playing seven best-of-five matches, after which there is a week of no games, that kills all momentum.
One of the things fans have been clamoring for years now, is organizing the LoL World Championship with a double-elimination format, to which Riot Games have never responded positively, except for empty platitudes.
Now, however, Riot's First Person Shooter, Valorant, is organizing its own Champions 2022 tournament with a double-elimination format, and LoL fans are up in arms.
After all, if Valorant is being organized in such a way, what is stopping League of Legends? Even the organizers in charge seem to be the same Riot team, some of which have been opposed to double-elimination in the past.
It seems that Riot's complacency when it comes to League of Legends is at fault. After all, no other MOBA comes close to League of Legends, and they have no need to innovate their tournaments.
On the other hand, Valorant is fighting established titles such as CS: GO and needs innovation to succeed. Hopefully, Riot will see reason, and actually make League of Legends keep up with the times once again.
