All the Upcoming Ranked Changes in Patch 14.1
Fixing issues with Emerald Tier
Last year, Riot introduced the Emerald Tier to rectify the skewed rank distribution. While successful in achieving a more balanced distribution, an unintended consequence emerged—Emerald Tier housed players with a significant variance in skill levels.
To mitigate this, Riot plans to tweak LP gains and losses for Emerald and above tiers. The goal is to make it more challenging to stay or climb in these ranks, reflecting their elevated status.
Narrowed Visible Rank Differences from Patch 14.1
Addressing the visible rank disparities witnessed in matches, Riot acknowledges the presence of Silver, Gold, Platinum, Emerald, and Diamond players in the same game.
This issue stemmed from increased LP gains and losses, leading to a broader range of visible ranks. In response, Riot plans to make demotions easier, ensuring that Platinum matches, for example, won't feature Silver players.
Additionally, matchmaking algorithms will prioritize less visible rank differences, offering a more balanced and enjoyable gameplay experience.
Different Process for New Players Placement
Recognizing the challenges faced by new players during placement matches, Riot aims to revamp the placement process.
The goal is to provide a more accurate initial rank for new players, reducing the impact of unbalanced matches and enabling a quicker determination of their true skill level.
