Kingdoms of Amalur fans were not getting a sequel, yet, but the next best thing is coming this August. Re-Reckoning will be a remaster of the often-overlooked RPG and will include all DLC.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is set to release on August 11, 2020, apparently. This is according to the listing on Microsoft store which kind of popped up out of nowhere. There were no listings on Steam, GOG or Epic Games Store at the time of writing but at least some of them are likely to appear in near future.

Considering the game's art style made it age well, despite dated graphics, one could be wondering whether a remaster was truly necessary but this might be an attempt to gauge the public's interest in the series. THQ Nordic holds the rights since 2018 so it's not impossible we will see more than a remaster in the future.

In case you are not familiar with the game, it is one of the most overlooked RPGs out there. KoA: Reckoning features a combat system that is a lot of fun even to this day, along with beautiful biomes across both the vanilla and DLC maps.

The writing was partially done by R.A. Salvatore, which shows as the story is rather gripping despite having the usual hero tropes. Ambiance makes you feel different in each zone while the combat system is fluid enough to keep things fresh through dozens of hours of gameplay.

Speaking of which, it is an unorthodox system that allows class mixing to a great potential, offering a spin on previously known abilities with certain combinations and build paths. For example, your rogue may have had a dodge already but it can be made into a blink if you give it enough points and Sorcery and a proper Destiny path.
