IO Interactive and Warner Bros. have finally decided to remove Denuvo from Hitman 2 now, almost four months after the steal shooter originally hit the shelves. In hindsight though, we hope it was worth those four days of protection.

Well, technically four days, if you disregard that Denuvo 5.3, Hitman 2's version of choice, was cracked before it even officially launched on Steam. The official launch was scheduled for 13 November 2018.

Denuvo didn't have any luck with its predecessor either, as 5.2 lasted about as many days. At the time, the anti-tamper tech was used by Football Manager 2019 and The Silent Man, the first of whom ended up being the main point of interest for FCKDRM.

By the way, don't confuse FCKDRM, the cracking group who seem to consider Denuvo their nemesis, with FCK DRM , CDPR's anti-DRM initiative, as the two obviously rely on vastly different methods in their struggle against DRM.

For what it's worth, even though we've heard reports of some games encountering stutter problems, which were later traced to Denuvo's anti-tamper tech, Hitman 2 didn't seem to be suffering from these issues.

There does seem to be a persistent bug that has Hitman 2 players crashing out to desktop, which many users blame Denuvo for, but there's not much actual proof this time around. We guess it will be interesting to see whether that does the trick, but so far - it doesn't look like it did.

Nevertheless, we're somehow certain that the majority of fans won't really mind, as the nature of Denuvo's work doesn't really win you many friends, does it? Judging by the general sentiment in Steam's comment section, perhaps even doubly so.

On a related note, Hitman 2 just received a mini-update that adds The Treasonous Mimicry escalation that's sure to bring some sunshine into your life, being set in the sun-bathed city of Miami.
