As successful as its been over the last several days, Sony's first big live service title Helldivers 2 is also suffering from serious server issues which are frustrating thousands of players on PC and PlayStation 5.
The most recent issue surfaced after the game's most recent update and is once again related to matchmaking. More precisely, players are unable to matchmake with other players as the game keeps returning the message "0 Helldivers active".
Sadly, there is nothing you can do to fix this as the issue is on the developer side. Some players reported that turning off crossplay can help solve the problem but we tried that on our PC and can confirm that it did not fix the issue.
Developer Arrowhead say they are well aware of this major problem and are working hard to fix it. They explained that the number of concurrent players (400k) is simply too much for their current server capacities.
"We are still struggling to keep up with the scaling that is needed to accommodate all our Helldivers. Therefore we've had to cap our concurrent players to around 450,000 to further improve server stability. We will continue to work with our partners to get the ceiling raised," Arrowhead said.
It does look like Arrowhead did not expect such a massive player count hence the small server capacity but we doubt they're sad about the whole situation. Their game is one of the most popular titles on both Steam and PS5 at the moment.
Hopefully, we'll get some sort of update in the coming days that would resolve this problem and allow players to find other players online and dive in to do some bug squashing.
Helldivers 2 is available now on PC via Steam and PlayStation 5. It remains to be seen if the game ever arrives to more platforms, including Xbox Series X|S.
