Back in Guild Wars' prime days there were many forums dedicated to the game. The most well known unofficial forum was Guild Wars Guru, which eventually became Legacy and users there are petitioning ArenaNet to release a new expansion.
Guild Wars community has proven to be decisive when they put their mind to something, with the being one of the prime examples as the fans put together over €1.500 in order to send 400 cupcakes to the company as a way to express their gratitude for more or less minor graphics updates.
The community is now looking to get more content for the game, by hosting a poll on Guild Wars Legacy, hoping it will attract enough attention in order to eventually contact ArenaNet about a potential new expansion pack. E M P E R O R, the creator of , seems to be well aware that this may be a long shot. Even if it isn't, there will be a hard journey to accomplish the goal of getting ArenaNet to dedicate a developer team to making new content in Guild Wars.
Considering ArenaNet are working hard on new content for Guild Wars 2, with a new episode of the Living Story just around the corner, it may prove even harder to dedicate enough developers to Guild Wars, as the company has just under 400 employees. That said, outsourcing could be a potential solution, but no hopes for a new expansion to the original Guild Wars are viable until NCSOFT gives ArenaNet the green light.
Just like with any other publisher, numbers will speak volumes more than words do. Therefore, if the campaign for a new expansion gets enough traction, it is not excluded hardcore fans will get new shiny lands and gear to play with due to NCSOFT taking notice.
Outsourcing some work could help ArenaNet develop more content for Guild Wars, which naturally costs money, just like any other form of development. With that in mind, it's not hard to imagine Guild Wars fans would throw the money on the table should a crowdfunding campaign pop out with a logo for a new chapter in Guild Wars saga on it.
