ArenaNet had Guild Wars on life support for years now and the odd update would only happen when devs would work on it during their personal time. However, now a properly sanctioned update is coming for the game's 15th birthday.

Guild Wars released on 26 April 2005, meaning the 15th anniversary is just around the corner. While the game has been abandoned and on automatic maintenance for years now, it appears ArenaNet are finally paying it some attention for the big birthday.

Players who log in to the game from 22 April 2020, at 9:00 PM GMT onward will be able to participate in the anniversary festivities. The Ancient Anniversary Weaponsmith will now have an additional weapon set that has not been revealed yet. ANet did leave a hint though, stating that the weapons will look familiar but will feature attribute requirements not seen before.

Furthermore, the same NPC will provide players with Proof of Triumph which will not have a direct use as it will not need to be handed over for a reward. Instead, carrying it in the inventory will cause some areas to spawn an additional enemy group that has a new boss with it.

It is these bosses that will have the new Elite skills for all 10 professions. Considering it's Elite skills we are talking about, make sure you bring Signet of Capture along.

All of these skills will be PvE-only, meaning we will get additional powerful tools to farm our favourite spots across Tyria and the Mists. Proof of Triumph will not disappear when the event ends so in case you don't have enough time to farm these bosses immediately, keep it in the inventory and you can capture the skills later.

ArenaNet developers will have a celebratory stream on 28 April 2020 at 12:00 PM PDT / 7:00 PM GMT, in case you would like to join the nostalgia ride on Twitch.
