Epic's flagship Fortnite is Google's most-searched game of 2018, as was confirmed in Google's Year in Search list. The data is specific to the United States and once again the popular battle royale had a tough competition in RDR2.
Google shared their annual Year in Search lists for the most-searched words in 2018. The category we're most interested in is, of course, gaming and this is the first time Google actually included a separate category for the most-searched game.
The data is specific for the United States as Google didn't include the gaming category on a global scale or for other countries. According to Google searches, Fortnite is the most popular game in the United States in 2018.
Epic's flagship beat Rockstar's record breaker Red Dead Redemption 2 to take the crown for the most-searched game of 2018. It's one of the many battles that these two titles had during the past year. Previously, Fortnite took the Game of the Year Award at the Golden Joystick Awards 2018, beating Red Dead Redemption 2 among other nominees.
The duo is followed by Bethesda's Fallout 76 in a third place, Far Cry 5 and God of War. As you can see, the first five games on the list are pretty expected and obvious, as all of these titles were highly anticipated titles.
The rest of the list is made of Monster Hunter: World, Sea of Thieves, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance. The last one is Zombs Royale, which is a browser battle royale. A standard experience where you drop from a plane, loot for the best gear and battle to be the last standing of 100 players. All that in your Chrome, Firefox or another internet browser.
All in all, it's really hard to argue with these results as Fortnite took its domination to a whole different level in 2018. The game hit more than players across all platforms in 2018. Epic Games continuously added more content and are listening to their community which obviously works great for Fortnite.
