Far Cry 5 will see the return of the map editor, a feature that was absent in the previous Far Cry title. A local co-op mode has been traded in for its online version in the latest game.
Far Cry 2, 3 and 4 all featured an option called "map editor". The editor was absent in the latest Far Cry game - 2016’s Far Cry Primal, but now we have news of it returning for the upcoming instalment. Players will be able to let their imagination run loose all over the place, and use the map editor to "create and play an infinite amount of new playgrounds".
But wait, that's not all. The editor will come equipped with a couple new features in order to update the option a little bit. The new features will "add a new dimension" to the player-created maps.
Additionally, you'll be able to team up with a fellow player in an online co-op. No word yet on whether the co-op mode will feature two versions of the same character or not. For now we know that we will be able to choose the gender and the skin-tone of our characters. Even though a character creator is not yet confirmed, it is very likely that it will be making an appearance.
As always, multiple editions of Far Cry 5 will be up for grabs at varying price points. The Deluxe Edition will set you back some £54.99 and grand you "immediate access to additional weapons, explosives, vehicles, and skins". Immediately after the game launches, we presume.
The Gold Edition will knock some £74.99 out of your wallet, but you'll get all the goodies available in the Deluxe Edition plus the Far Cry 5 season pass. Yay? We don't know what exactly the season pass will entail but the game's Steam page talks about "additional stories, content & gear", so there you go.
All pre-order (£44.99) customers will receive a Doomsday Prepper Pack, that includes an outfit a true prepper would be proud of, as well as some vehicle skins and a gun.
All of the editions mentioned are available for PlayStation 4 , PC and Xbox One . The Gold Addition costs £74.99 digitally. If you, however, want to flaunt the physical version, you'll have to shell out some £84.99. The physical version will come in a Steelbook case.
PlayStation 4 folks who buy Far Cry 5 for their beloved console will get some mystery content for free. The content will also be available for PC and Xbox One, but players on those platforms will have to pay for it through the Ubisoft Club .
Far Cry 5 will launch on 27 February 2018.
