Fortnite became a global phenomenon after its launch in 2017. The battle royale title became an overnight sensation across all platforms for its unique gameplay mechanics and beautiful minimal graphics.
Following its success, Epic Games decided to port the game to mobile devices. Soon, Fortnite became available on Android and iOS devices. However, Apple delisted the game from its App Store following a violation of their 30% tax on in-app purchases policy.
Since then, Fortnite was only available for Android devices. After a long legal battle, Epic Games has confirmed that Fortnite is officially making its return to the App Store soon.
Fortnite's return to the App Store is on the way
Epic Games Founder and CEO Tim Sweeney has always expressed his doubts towards other stores such as Apple's App Store, that features a policy of charging a 30% tax on in-app purchases. Following that trail, Apple made the decision to pull out Fortnite from their App Store after Epic's violation of the in-app purchase tax policy.
After a long term legal battle, Fortnite is yet to make its return in the US App Store. However, due to European Union's Digital Markets Act, Fortnite is on its way to make a return to the App Store for iPhones and iPads.
Epic Games also submitted an official notarization application for the approval of their Epic Games Store on iOS devices. However, Apple has reportedly declined their application twice since then. Apple informed that the reason behind their apparent rejection is the similarity of the installation and in-app purchases button being too similar to that of the App store.
However, Epic Games shared their official response to the rejection stating that they are asking the EU to help them deal with the similarity issue. Fortunately, a few hours later Epic shared that Apple has accepted their notarization request, confirming the official return of Fortnite to iOS devices in the EU.
While Epic Games has not shared an official date of the game's return of the App Store, but they have told players to expect the game to make its return with the upcoming season in a few months.
