As we step into the new year, what better way to mark it than with free games, and while Epic Games are back to their old schedule of one game weekly, they kicked off 2020 with three freebies - Darksiders, Darksiders 2 and Steep.
If you've been thinking about giving the Darksiders franchise a try, then there's no better way than to start from the top, and it's not just any top - Epic are giving out the remastered editions, that make them look as fresh as when they launched.
If you're not familiar with the franchise, we're talking about hack and slash adventures published by THQ and created by former Vigil Games, the studio founded by Joe Madureira, whose work you're certainly familiar with if you like comics.
Originally launched in 2010, Darksiders: Warmastered Edition came in 2016 and certainly brought back the memories.
Darksiders' first instalment is all about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, where players play as War. Needless to say, you won't be sitting in drum circles and singing kumbayas - the game is as dynamic as they get and laying our eyes on the in-game world makes us happy the franchise still found a home after THQ's troubles.
Having originally launched in 2012, Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition was remastered in 2015 and it has players playing as Death, trying to clear its name of War's, ahem, subtle interventions from the earlier game.
If you happen to like what you see, you should know Darksiders 3 launched in 2018 and while it didn't seem to make the splash its predecessors did, it's still one seriously fun game.
Last but not least is Steep, Ubisoft's snowboarding title from 2016, and it's quite a blast. Rumour has it that Epic might even follow it up with Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and we're silently rooting for that to happen.
