Dying Light: The Beast patch 1.5 details

Dying Light: The Beast patch 1.5 introduces a new Nightmare Experience difficulty, the Alpha Volatile enemy, and added survival mechanics for experienced players.

Techland has dropped Patch 1.5 for Dying Light: The Beast and it’s pretty obvious from the patch notes that it’s been designed with more seasoned players in mind. The new Nightmare Experience difficulty has been added along with a new deadly enemy and more survival systems to up the ante.

The core of Dying Light: The Beast has always been about the fluidity of the parkour and the thrill of the exploration, but Patch 1.5 is all about survival.

Resources are more limited, enemies more cunning, and surviving is going to require more strategy.

Nightmare Experience difficulty

New Nightmare Experience difficulty offers a much greater challenge for veterans. Hostile enemies will have more health, be more aggressive and react quicker to players moving in the environment.

Dark Zones become less forgiving too with Volatiles appearing even during the daytime.Resources have also been reduced overall so hasty movements or wastefulness with supplies will catch up quickly.

The mode is a slower, more oppressive way to play that prioritizes caution and planning.

Alpha Volatile arrives

Patch 1.5 also introduces the Alpha Volatile, a new enemy which the patch notes say is the “deadliest infected you’ve ever encountered in Castor Woods.”

This creature is distinct from the usual Volatile enemies with more intelligence, such as being able to scent-track players, walk through UV flashlight beams and roam the entire map. It will relentlessly stalk and hunt a player once engaged, only giving up once that player reaches a safezone or kills it.

New survival mechanics and rewards

Nightmare Experience has some new survival systems in the Hunger System, which degrades stamina, health regeneration and combat abilities if left unaddressed. It progressively punishes neglect more severely.

Flashlights now have a limited battery charge, dimming and flickering as they approach death to force players to craft new ones or find them in the environment. There are unique rewards for those that tackle the mode’s most difficult tasks like outfits, charms, items and a vehicle skin.
