Divinity: Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition has finally launched for consoles, after a year long wait. Larian Studios have also added Definitive Edition for PC as a free update and Steam users can already download and play the game.

Definitive Edition went out a little bit earlier than expected on Steam, but that's far from bad news for anyone. The first Divinity: Original Sin received similar treatment with Enhanced Edition which effectively made it a completely different game to play, as it overhauled many abilities and other combat aspects.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition, however, focused on changing the game in different ways. For example, there are now about 150.000 new and rewritten words, be it as lines of dialogue or objects players can interact with. On top of that, Definitive Edition added complete new areas and fights, without Larian taking a dime from previous owners. Kudos.

Large portion of those 150.000 new and rewritten words is actually in the story's third act which some fans apparently found lacklustre. Just to make sure their players get to enjoy Divinity: Original Sin 2's story to the maximum, Larian threw in a new difficulty that will allow players to focus more on the lore by kicking the fight difficulty down a notch.

It seems Larian thought this update through every tiny detail, as they added sort of a switch on the launcher that allows players to toggle Definitive Edition update on and off, as some players might still prefer the vanilla game. Bear in mind that saves from vanilla Divinity: Original Sin 2 will not be compatible with Definitive Edition and vice versa.

Those who didn't grab the game by now might want to do so until 09 September 2018 as the game is currently on a 10 per cent discount on Steam, as part of Definitive Edition launch celebration. Divinity: Original Sin 2 has been well received by players and critics alike, and even has Altchar Cynic's Seal of Approval. Well, it's not a real title yet, but it might be one day.
