Divinity: Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition release coming soon

Larian Studios have announced that Divinity: Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition will be coming in August 2018 and will bring literally thousands of fixes and changes. The Definitive Edition will be free for those who already own the game.

One might see the Definitive Edition as a glorified patch for Divinity: Original Sin 2 but the sheer size of the update qualifies Larian Studios for Ubisoft rank of post launch support. Except Larian delivered a great experience at launch as well. Anyway, just like with the first Original Sin, the Definitive Edition will be completely optional so players who enjoy the current state of the game can still play it. 

Meanwhile, those who opt in and download the Definitive Edition will get updates based on player feedback such as the improved narrative. This will apply to later parts of the game, with some players suggesting it's about Act 3. New dialogue has been created and new words recorded in order for the game to be more reactive to the players' dialogue choices.

Tutorial will also be expanded, since there will be a whole new deck at the beginning of the game with new characters that will walk players through different game mechanics. This change was made after Larian Studious figured out that players had too much to learn and too little time to do so during the game's opening.

Combat has seen some rebalancing as well, as Larian polished the difficulty jumps so players don't experience radical difficulty spikes anymore. They have also added some completely new fights, citing Edouard's surprise in Kemm's garden and the Kraken as the examples. Let's hope they also have decent loot though.

Players who just want to experience the game as a story will now have Story Mode which has been described as a more casual experience than the current lowest difficulty setting - Explorer Mode. There will also be options to switch between Story, Explorer and Classic modes on the fly, in case players decide they want more of a challenge or less frustration at specific parts of the game.

There are also music, performance and squirrel changes that can be found on the game's . Even though that's more info than we took out, it is still not 100 per cent detailed, as all the changes would take up too much space to write down.
