Apparently, Battlefront 3 got turned down because it takes "20 per cent more sales to make the same amount of money."

The studio behind Battlefield and Battlefront franchises, DICE, reportedly wanted to make another Battlefront game instead of Battlefield 2042, says reliable and trusted Battlefield insider Tom Henderson.

Apparently, DICE pitched the Star Wars: Battlefront 3 idea to EA higher-ups but did not get the green light for the project.

But why did EA say no to DICE's Star Wars: Battlefront 3 pitch? Well, according to a former DICE developer who reached out to Henderson, the licencing costs that EA need to pay to Disney are quite high, which is the main reason why such a project was never greenlit.

Apparently, a Star Wars game would need to sell 20 per cent more copies to make the same amount of money as a Battlefield game.

Whether this report is indeed true or not, we will probably never know since EA and DICE probably won't comment on such claims. Though it certainly is possible that DICE's primary goal was to work on a new Battlefront.

Since the release of Battlefield 4, DICE switched between the franchises on a regular basis so we got 2015's Star Wars Battlefront, then Battlefield 1 in 2016, Star Wars Battlefront in 2017 and Battlefield V in 2018.

With Battlefield 2042, this development cycle has been broken and it will be interesting to see what's next for DICE.
