He loves me, he loves me not - the whole saga around Blizzard's Diablo III coming to Nintendo's Switch peculiarly resembles this petal picking game. So, is Diablo III coming? Latest report says hell yeah, and then some!
The last we've heard of Blizzard's Diablo III on the Switch was the company's tease video, showing a Diablo shaped lamp, with an on-off switch. Sneaky, sneaky.
However, as the rumour was heating up and increasingly looking to be an actual fact, Blizzard pulled out the rug from underneath pretty much everyone and said that "As of now, we do not have any current plans to announce Diablo for Switch". So that's that, right? Wrong.
Eurogamer cites their sources as saying that not only is Diablo III coming to the Switch, it is already in production. There's no word as of yet whether this includes Reaper of Souls and Rise of the Necromancer, but apparently - Diablo coming to the Switch is all but fact at this point.
To be perfectly honest, at the time Blizzard said there's no plans for Diablo III on the Switch, our disappointment took the better of us, but in hindsight, we should've read between the lines. Namely, note the wording here.
Even better, let us rearrange it for you - they "do not have [...] plans [...] to announce Diablo for Switch" "as of now". It didn't actually say it wasn't coming - it said they're not planning to announce it yet. I fear we were underestimating Blizzard's sneakiness.
We're not sure if this is just a result of Nintendo's totalitarian anti-rumour policies rubbing off on Blizzard, or it's just Blizzard being even more Blizzardy than usual, but I admit the company has taken me for a ride. In a strange way though, I must say I enjoyed it, but I'll make sure to up my sneakiness sensor sensitivity for next time.
