It turns out that DayBreak Games will soon see H1Z1 and EverQuest ported to mobile, after a "strategic investment" in the company led to creation of NantG Mobile, who will take up the mantle for bringing the two titles to Android and iOS.
DayBreak's benefactor in question are NantWorks, a "diversified holding company" with a "controlling iterest in a new joint venture with Daybreak, NantG Mobile". H1Z1 and EverQuest are NantG's priorities but the company claims they'll focus on all platforms eventually, not just mobile.
Speaking of H1Z1, its mobile version will actually be dropping H1 from the name, so we'll only have Z1 Battle Royale once it launches a revitalized version on PC. Meanwhile on mobile, it's still too early to speak of proper development or anything of the sort, because the deal is pretty fresh and therefore this version is still not officially named.
Now, as much as I may enjoy playing some of their offerings, 'DayBreak doing a good job' is not a linguistic construction I'm used to. However, they really did a good job with H1Z1 on PS4, filling in the role of Fortnite's main competitor on PlayStation, while they were off catering to Microsoft.
When it comes to numbers alone, we're all aware that Fortnite's only serious contender is PUBG, but first come - first served. H1Z1 and DayBreak managed to capitalise on Greene and Co's Micro-aspirations, although we're yet to see how they'll fare in the mobile market.
Namely, both Fortnite and PUBG Mobile are players in the mobile sector, said to be raking in serious bucks, so it's a pretty tall order trying to penetrate that wall. Of course, that's not to say that the unnamed H1Z1 Battle Royale won't be able to find a space, it's just that any notion of leading the market in that segment is probably out of the question, even in PR talk.
As for EverQuest, DayBreak's 20+ year old wonder is still pushing strong believe it or not, but maybe it's about time for a refresh, even if it's mobile. Unfortunately for EverQuest fans, H1Z1 Battle Royale's mobile version seems to be the priority at the moment.
