Polish analyst predicts that CD Projekt Red's upcoming RPG Cyberpunk 2077 is set to become the most expensive game of all time. They estimate that the development costs will reach approximately $314 million.

The wait for one of the biggest games of all time, Cyberpunk 2077 is almost over. After more than five years of development, CD Projekt Red are set to wrap up the project later this year, when Cyberpunk 2077 is officially set to launch.

It's been a long and bumpy ride for the beloved developers who brought us mega-popular The Witcher trilogy and it seems it's also been quite expensive. To be more precise, this ride is set to become one of the most expensive ones in the history of gaming.

According to analysts at the Polish brokerage firm ( via NIntendoSmash ), the approximate budget of Cyberpunk 2077 is set to reach PLN 1.2 billion, which is approximately $314 million.

If this indeed happens, then Cyberpunk 2077 will become the most expensive game of all time, exceeding the budget of Rockstar's mammoth GTA V, which took $265 million dollars for development and marketing costs.

Earlier this year, it's been reported that in-development title Star Citizen raised $300 million from more than 2 million backers  but it seems that Cyberpunk 2077 is set to beat that record too.

When compared to CD Projekt Red's last big title, The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, Cyberpunk 2077's development and marketing cost is four times bigger which is certainly an astonishing difference.

It seems that CD Projekt Red are spending a lot of money on marketing this time around, though. Recently, a Cyberpunk 2077 ad appeared on a screen at Times Square in New York City, which set CD Projekt Red back for $2.5 million.

Analysts predict that these high production costs will be compensated by soaring sales which they predict will reach 21 million copies by the end of 2020 and 34 million one year after the release, which would certainly be a massive success for CD Projekt Red.
