New Frontier Pass' new DLC pack will add Byzantium and Gaul to Civilization VI. Today we got a first look at Ambiorix - the leader - and his civilization's unique abilities, buildings and units.
Civilization VI's New Frontier Pass is getting a new DLC pack. The pack will introduce Byzantium and Gaul and today we got the first look at the Gaul leader - Ambiorix.
Ambiorix was the co-ruler of the Eburone tribe of Gallia Belgica (north-eastern Gaul, modern-day Belgium) who led an insurrection against Caesar’s occupying forces in the winter of 54/53 BCE. Although his real name has been lost to history, he remains well-known by his title, “Ambiorix,” which means "The King in All Directions."
Ambiorix' leader ability is called King of the Eburones and it will allow his civilization to gain additional Culture based on unit cost when a non-civilian is trained. His melee, anti-cavalry, and ranged units also receive bonus Combat Strength for every adjacent combat unit.
The unique ability of the Gaul is Hallstatt Culture. This means that their mines provide minor adjacent bonuses for all districts, a Culture bomb of unowned territory, and receive bonus Culture.
However, speciality districts will not receive a minor adjacency bonus for being near another district and these districts cannot be built next to the City Center, so plan accordingly.
Ambiorix' elite units - the Gaesatae - cost a bit extra to train, but do receive additional Combat Strength when fighting stronger units and district defences.
The unique district is the Oppidum. It's a doozy as it is cheaper to build and available earlier than the Industrial Zone. Extra juicy bonus - when built, the Oppidum unlocks the Apprenticeship technology. The Oppidum is defensible, has its own ranged attack and receives a major adjacency bonus from Quarries and strategic resources.
Sid Meier's Civilization VI - New Frontier Pass will be available for PC via Steam on September 24.
