CD Projekt Red may have plans for The Witcher game with Ciri as the main protagonist according to principal writer Jakub Szamalek who said that Ciri's story is something that they may get back to in the future.
CD Projekt Red are currently working hard to deliver their next big RPG title Cyberpunk 2077. We know that the studio will also work on several DLCs and potentially multiplayer version of the sci-fi RPG but after that, their work should shift to The Witcher franchise.
Polish devs already confirmed that The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 will be their primary franchise so it is safe to assume that The Witcher will be CD Projekt Red's next project after Cyberpunk 2077.
Fans have been speculating about such game for quite some time now and it seems that the majority of players would love to see Ciri as the main protagonist. Well, it looks like CD Projekt Red also thought about such a story.
In the latest interview, principal writer Jakub Szamalek said that in The Witcher 3, Ciri did not get as much screen time as the writers would have loved but this may be something that they will get back to in the future.
"Due to obvious reasons - well, she’s pretty much gone for two-thirds of the game - she didn’t get quite as much screen time as we writers would have liked. But hey, maybe it’s something we’ll get to get back to in the future,” Szamalek explained.
When asked if they ever considered continuing The Witcher franchise with Ciri as the main protagonist, Szamalek replied teasingly: "Interesting question, would you like to play a game with Ciri as a lead character?"
Of course, this does not mean that CD Projekt Red's next game will indeed feature Ciri as the protagonist but to us, it does seem like this is a high possibility, especially since most of Ciri's story has been left untold in The Witcher 3.
