CD Project Red have announced that Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales will release on 23 October 2018 for PC and 04 December 2018 for consoles. It will be a different take on adventuring in The Witcher world, with puzzles and cards.

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, as the name suggests, will take place in The Witcher universe and will reveal more stories as CD Projekt Red have stated that the game will be a narrative driven exploration RPG with "unique puzzles and card battle mechanics". As you might presume, the latter will be the card battle mechanics from GWENT, with Thronebreaker being a spin-off and all.

According to CD Projekt Red, the game was developed by parts of the team that were responisble for some of the most iconic moments in The Witcher 3, and will tell a tale of Meve, a war-veteran queen of the two Northern Realms - Lyria and Rivia. She will be forced to fight once again as Nilfgaard is about to invade her realms, but there is also a mention of a "dark journey of destruction and revenge".

Apparently, Thronebreaker will feature never-before-seen parts of The Witcher World, thought-provoking quests and "rich, multidimensional" characters. There will seemingly be some management involved as players will need to gather resources to expand their army, which sounds a lot like deck building since the combat will be done via cards, like in GWENT.

There is currently no information on the pricing of Thronebreaker but the game will not be a free to play title, while the exact price will come in the near future, according to CD Projekt Red.

Thronebreaker will not be the only launch by CD Projekt Red on these two dates though, as GWENT is also slated for full release on the same days on PC and later on consoles as the game will finally leave beta.

This means GWENT will launch soon after Homecoming, which is the biggest update since the game came to be. It will introduce major changes to GWENT, some of them being community requested ones.

The most interesting changes will be the rework of the game's board into a three dimensional battlefield though, which will feature two distinct rows, a new deck building experience and new card mechanics.
