Battlefield Studios has shared some details on the first Battlefield 6 update themed around the classic movie franchise Top Gun. Coming August 18 as part of Season 4, players can expect an updated version of Wake Island, two new aircraft-based game modes, tons of new vehicles and weapons, and gameplay tweaks galore.
Headlining the update is the new version of Wake Island. Instead of featuring combat across land, sea, and air like its predecessors, Battlefield Studios claims the revamped battle royale-style map is focused around naval combat.
Teams will spawn aboard aircraft carriers which act as their respective headquarters. Pilots will have to take to the waters surrounding Wake Island and fight for dominance over the territory.
Modes
Players can expect two new modes in Battlefield 6′s Top Gun update. Carrier Strike challenges teams to strategically disable each other’s aircraft carriers by capturing sites across Wake Island, spawning new vehicles, and then boarding and destroying their opponents’ carrier from the inside.
Fighter Sweep is a brand-new REDSEC Gauntlet course that has players traverse Wake Island engaging in aerial dogfights, shooting down enemies, destroying supply crates, and completing objectives.
Weapons and Vehicles
A few new gadgets will be joining the ranks when Top Gun ships next week. Snipers will be able to pick up the Interdictor, which comes equipped with a silencer. Along with the gun, players will also be able to fly two new two-seat fighter jets: F/81F Super Spectre and F-74A Seacat. Both airplanes allow pilots and gunners to communicate and strategize while dogfighting or strafing ground targets.
Extra Stuff
Off the battlefield, REDSEC will have a new hotspot to loot called the USS Grant. The crashed aircraft carrier sits in Fort Lyndon and will reportedly provide higher quality loot than other areas on the map for the first two weeks.
Elsewhere, Battlefield Studios added an optional ADS Dispersion Crosshair for better weapon accuracy feedback, Airplane Control Assist to help ease new players into flying mechanics, and a revamped Portal Advanced Editor that now features terrain tools and baked lighting options.
