Turtle Rock Studios, Back 4 Blood, pretty boy?

Back 4 Blood, Turtle Rock and Warner Bros' co-op shooter, has received a gameplay trailer at The Game Awards and fans should know it's soon getting a closed alpha.

If you're getting distinct Left 4 Dead vibes, it's not accidental - Back 4 Blood was made by the team that came up with the franchise. Long story short, their closure as Valve South left the studio now known as Turtle Rock without the franchise license, hence the name.

Note that Back 4 Blood's developer still retained an amicable relationship with Valve, as they've been contracted for additional work on L4D and the sequel too, so neither they nor GabeN burned any bridges, thankfully.

Many would argue that Left 4 Dead left a big hole, and not many games managed to fill it. We cannot help but mention WWZ, which has gone the furthest in our opinion, but that L4D vibe is difficult to emulate.

Fans should pretty much know what to expect, but if you're just coming in - it's a co-op multiplayer, survival horror shooter, where you and your team try to stay alive while facing wave after wave of the undead.

It all adds up to a uniquely thrilling experience, and Back 4 Blood certainly looks the part. After hearing some rumours about Valve potentially resurrecting Left 4 Dead franchise, which have since been squashed, we can't wait to dive in.

And we won't have to wait much longer as Back 4 Blood is headed for closed alpha testing on December 17, 2020. It launches for PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X on June 22, 2020.
