Obsidian Entertainment’s latest update for Avowed, version 1.5, brings new unique gear, abilities, and major improvements to combat, crafting, and more — plus full Steam Deck support.

Obsidian Entertainment has officially released Update 1.5 for Avowed, and it’s one of the game’s biggest patches yet. The update introduces new content like weapons and armour sets alongside important balance tweaks and quality of life upgrades.

Avowed is also Steam Deck verified now and has a couple of great quality of life features for anti-aliasing options in the graphics menu.

New unique items and abilities

Players can now get their hands on brand-new, unique armour and weapons, giving even more options for customising their character. These items can be found across all four regions and include new Unique Mace, Spear, Two-Handed Hammer, Wand, Arquebus, and Robe. Update 1.5 also introduces new abilities for both Ranger and Fighter classes, allowing for fresh combat strategies and playstyles.

Improved combat and crafting systems

Enemy combat has been further refined to feel more responsive and challenging, while cooking and crafting have also received significant improvements. You can check the patch notes here for the full list of these improvements.

Expanded language support and Steam Deck verification

Avowed now officially supports Korean and Japanese, opening the game up to even more players worldwide. Additionally, the game has achieved Steam Deck Verified status, meaning handheld players can expect a smooth experience on Valve’s portable system.

Graphics and performance upgrades

For players who are not fans of the soft and blurry image produced by TAA, there's an option to turn off this anti-aliasing option completely. There’s also a new 40 FPS cap option, and the FSR quality setting now clearly displays “Native AA” before “Quality,” making graphical settings easier to understand.

Bug fixes and balance changes

Update 1.5 includes a long list of fixes and adjustments. Notable changes include:

  • Map information now reveals a larger area around the player.
  • Hands no longer clip through objects when opening chests.
  • Several quest bugs have been resolved, such as issues in “One Last Drink” and “Shadows of the Past.”
  • The description of Piercing Thrusts has been corrected to accurately list affected weapons.
  • A bug blocking the Spirit Lance ability when shooting a bow has been fixed.
  • Visual indicators for enchantment upgrades have been improved.
  • Input issues on menu screens have been addressed.
  • Thalla’s ground stomp attack now better matches the visual indicator.
  • The crit chance bonus cap from the Ring of Fortune has been doubled from 5% to 10%.

With update 1.5, Avowed continues to evolve into a game that I'd still wholeheartedly recommend to many RPG fans. Whether you’re returning to finish quests or starting a new build with the latest abilities, there’s plenty to explore here and the most important part of it - Avowed is even more fun than on day one.

Avowed is available on PC and Xbox Series X|S, and now fully supports the Steam Deck. You can find the full patch notes on the official website.
