You won't find too many puzzles in Avowed because everything in the game is somehow straightforward, meaning to find something in Obsidian Entertainment's latest RPG, you simply have to follow the on-screen prompts and some hints that are very easy to understand.
However, finding the specific locations on the maps, like Pagrun Caches or Ancient Memories, can be quite tiresome work, not because they are very well conceived, but rather because you'll have to look into every nook and cranny in the maps to find them, and the maps are quite huge, to say the least.
Speaking of Pagrun Cache, the one from the Shatterescarp map is special for two reasons: first because it is very hard to find due to its location (on the eastern edge of the map), and even if you come close to it, the game won't register it unless you literally step into it.
The other reason is that this Pagrun Cache, unlike others, contains a genuine puzzle, which you must solve to gain access to the hidden compartment of the cache. If this puzzle poses a challenge to you, here is how to solve it easily.
How to solve the puzzle in Shatterscarp Pagrun Cache
Once you locate Pagrun Cache in Shatterscarp, enter it through the passage on the upper floor and use the beams to safely descend to the ground floor. Once you reach it, look on the floor above and notice a barred gate you can destroy with the Eve of Rymrgand throwable, and once you enter that room, the puzzle will be in front of you.
The puzzle features four levers that must be properly positioned in order to unlock the door located to the left of the mechanism. If you check out the table in front of the mechanism, you'll notice a note mentioning the storeroom key and vaguely explaining how to get it.
The last sentence in the note is actually the solution to the puzzle, saying: one mountain, two valleys, and one mountain again, meaning that you must keep the first lever up (mountain), the second and third you must put down (valleys), and the fourth level keep up (mountain).
Once you set the levers like this, the door to the left will open, but it still isn't the end of this puzzle. Enter the room and pick up the loot you'll find there. Now check the mechanism on the opposite side of the door and interact with it; this will open the hidden room where you can grab the Ornate Pagrun Key.
Now you might wonder what to do with this key because surely there's no door you can unlock with it inside Pagrun Cache. To find the door this key unlocks, you must exit this building and go a bit to the northwest. Check out your map and position yourself to stand exactly on top of the letter S in Shark's Teeth, and you'll be in front of a huge door.
The key you're holding unlocks this door, but what you'll find behind it is quite disappointing and definitely not worth so much trouble to get it in the first place. However, we won't be the ones to spoil your surprise on this one—discover it on your own.
