According to Arkane Studios' 2024 financial statements (via ResetEra), the production phase for Marvel's Blade began at the end of last year, following successful prototype validation. This marks a significant milestone for the highly anticipated action game, which was first revealed at The Game Awards in 2023.
The production phase is where the bulk of the video game is made. It includes programming, art creation, level design, sound design, physics, mechanics and all other aspects of creating a video game.
A possible November 2027 release
The financial report estimates that final approval for the game is expected around November 2027. While not officially confirmed as the launch date, this timeline suggests that fans might finally get their hands on Blade in late 2027, probably for the next-gen consoles.
This aligns with the typical multi-year development cycles seen in other Arkane titles. Keep in mind that this is an internal projection and probably an optimistic one, so don't be surprised if the game is pushed to 2028.
Blade team is growing
In 2024, Arkane employed 190 people, as they put heavy focus on developing an ambitious AAA project which is Marvel's Blade. Obviously, this is not the total number of developers working on the project, as modern video game development usually includes a lot of outsourcing for various assets and support from other studios.
Microsoft's internal studios are known to give each other a hand, especially those working in Unreal Engine 5. (Blade seems to be using Arkane's Void engine.)
Looking forward
All in all, it looks like we won't be playing Marvel's Blade anytime soon. Arkane started the concept phase back in 2022, and given that the game only entered production last year, it's safe to say that we'll be waiting a couple more years to play this one, if Microsoft don't cancel this one too.
