Ark 2 has been delayed again, with the survival sequel now set to release in 2028. Announced at the Snail Games Investor Day, Ark 2’s latest delay will likely be disheartening for fans who have been waiting years to finally get their hands on the follow-up.
Jeremy Stieglitz, co-founder of Studio Wildcard, stated that Ark 2 is now expected to arrive sometime in 2028. Previously, the game was slated to release sometime in late 2024, but was later delayed without an official release date. This latest news then adds at least a two-year delay to the game.
Ark 2 still a long way off
Jeremy Stieglitz did however state that Ark 2 will not remain far out of reach until 2028. Instead, Studio Wildcard has stated that Ark: Survival Ascended will feature early gameplay of the sequel.
Studio Wildcard announced a major Ark 2-inspired update set for late 2027, which will feature “key mechanics and ideas” associated with Ark 2. At the same event, it was also stated that Ark: Survival Ascended has now sold over 4 million copies.
Ark: Survival Ascended will get more updates
Ark: Survival Ascended will also be continuing to receive new content. The next major expansion, Ark: Lost Colony, is set to take place this year and will introduce a new chapter to the game’s narrative.
Key features of Ark: Lost Colony include:
- A new story campaign tied to Ark 2’s broader narrative
- AI-controlled human characters that can be recruited into player tribes
- Anime sequences produced by MAPPA
- Unreal Engine 5 Metahuman cinematics
Roadmap leading up to Ark 2
Planned releases include:
- Q1 2026: Ark: Survival of the Fittest, a 60-player competitive spin-off
- Q2 2026: Bob’s True Tales: Tides of Fortune and the ARK Genesis map
- Q3 2026: ARK World Creator, expanding modding tools similar to UEFN
- Q4 2026: Ark Dragontopia
- Q1 2027: Ark Atlantis
- Q2 2027: Bob’s True Tales: Galaxy Wars, focused on space combat
- Q4 2027: Legacy of Santiago, a prequel that helps test Ark 2 mechanics
The developers have also stated that these additions to Ark: Survival Ascended may not be the last as well, alluding to the game still having support after this roadmap.
While the delay for Ark 2 to 2028 is yet another disappointment, Studio Wildcard seems intent on engaging the Ark community with regular expansions, experimental updates, and laying the groundwork for the sequel.
