Xbox is Microsoft's gaming brand, launched in November 2001 with the original Xbox console and the iconic Halo: Combat Evolved — the game that put the platform on the map. Over the following two decades, the brand has evolved through the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and the current Xbox Series X|S generation, selling a combined total of over 180 million consoles worldwide. The Xbox 360 remains the franchise's commercial peak, shifting around 84 million units and helping to define a generation of online console gaming through Xbox Live. In recent years, Microsoft has shifted focus from hardware sales to ecosystem growth, with Xbox Game Pass — its subscription service offering hundreds of games on console, PC, and cloud — now central to its strategy. Xbox is also home to iconic franchises including Halo, Forza, Gears of War, and Fable, and following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, now oversees some of the biggest franchises in gaming.
