Sea of Thieves announces closed beta

With the official launch slated for March 2018, Rare’s swashbuckling action-adventure is making big strides towards the date as the company announced the closed beta for January 24. To make sure that the game is noticed by world plus dog, Microsoft is making as much noise as possible and even launched a special Sea of Thieves controller.

JANUARY 10

PUBG's killcams show more and more hackers

PUBG Corp teamed up with South Korean game technology provider Minkonet to bring some custom replay settings to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. The options launched with the 1.0 version of the game and were supposed to help the devs get rid of hackers. Recent reports show that hackers are still growing in numbers.

JANUARY 10

Microsoft discontinues production of Xbox One Kinect adapter

Xbox Kinect was dealt the finishing blow. After stopping production of Kinect back in October 2017, Microsoft is now also not selling Kinect adapters for Xbox One models

JANUARY 3

PUBG's first post-launch update

PUBG's PC version got its first post-launch update. The dev team took to Steam to explain why lag and rubber-banding are so difficult to get rid of. After the patch, the team will continue to monitor the servers.

DECEMBER 29

PUBG for PlayStation 4

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is currently available for Xbox One and PC. The game recently left Steam's early access. Bluehole has plans to eventually release their battle royale shooter for PlayStation 4 as well.

Cuphead launch on iOS is fake

Cuphead, a charming little retro platform game has finally hit the App Store at an unbelievable price of only £4.99/$4.99 but there’s a single catch - it’s fake and you probably threw your cash away. Not that we’re happy, mind you, we just thought you should know.

PUBG's first Xbox-focused patch

PUBG is now available on Xbox One via Xbox Game Preview. The first Xbox One oriented patch has been deployed. The patch mends some of the issues players have been having with their motorcycles and anti-aliasing.

PUBG hits Xbox One, falls short of stable 30fps

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has finally arrived for Xbox and all the ruckus around the game’s exclusivity for Microsoft’s consoles is now being drowned out by disappointing reviews. From what we’ve gathered, pretty much everything seems to be an issue, from the player lobby aesthetics to performance and input issues.

PUBG's desert map to debut at The Game Awards

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds' new map set to be revealed during The Game Awards. The map was teased back in July. A recent patch was datamined to reveal a nearly finished desert map.

Microsoft's Kinect is no more

Microsoft's augmented reality appendix widely known as the Kinect is no longer available for purchase. The device has been discontinued but parts such as its sensors will still be used for Microsoft's HoloLens AR headset.

Fifa 18 takes the No1 spot this week

Fifa 18 was released last week and now it's on top of the UK sales charts. Thanks to software/hardware bundle deals with Fifa 18, Forza Horizon 3 is now at number three. PES 2018 fell off of the top ten list.

PUBG's developers are keeping a close eye on AFK farming

Whether you are AFK farming or farming AFK-ers in PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, a time may soon come where that will no longer be an option. Bluehole Studio are currently looking into the matter before it gets out of hand.

SEPTEMBER 4

Microsoft is no longer selling the original Xbox One

Halfway through the current console generation's life cycle the original Xbox One is being shelved in favour of the Xbox One S and X variants of Microsoft's gaming machine. At the same time, the company is boasting with record pre-order numbers for the beefier Xbox One X.

Relic Entertainment is working on Age of Empires IV

Despite never being truly gone, the Age of Empires series and its spin-offs have been absent from mainstream gaming scene for almost 12 years. Microsoft has now announced that Relic Entertainment is developing a full fledged sequel for one of the defining games of the RTS genre.

AUGUST 22

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds sells 8 million

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has sold 8 million copies according to Brendan Greene, and is now right behind DOTA 2 on SteamCharts pushing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to the third spot. An Xbox version of the game should be available before the end of the year.

AUGUST 21

Crackdown 3 has been delayed into 2018

Crackdown 3 was scheduled to release 7 November 2017, but the game's release has now been delayed to an unspecified date during Spring 2018. Crackdown 3 was initially supposed to release in 2016, and Microsoft hasn't really named a concrete reason for the delay.

AUGUST 17

Forza Motorsport 7 system requirements

Forza Motorsport 7 has been revealed during Microsoft's E3 press conference. The game will be coming out for PC and crossplay between PC, Xbox One, and the new Xbox One X will be enabled.

JUNE 15

Minecraft Story Mode season 2 is on its way

The first episode of the second season of Minecraft's Story Mode will be called Hero in Residence. A listing for the game has popped up on Australia's ratings board and is classified as PG (Mild fantasy themes and violence).

Will they won't they: Scalebound

Microsoft renewed the Sacebound trademark and the rumors about the project being alive gained some traction. The have been debunked and there is "Nothing to see here folks."

MAY 19

Last chance to get Alan Wake on Steam

Remedy Entertainment's Alan Wake is being taken off Steam due to an expiring music license 7 years after its release and the horror title will be 90 per cent off, in its final 48 hours on the platform. Last call for anyone still looking to add the game to their library.
