Mikonet, the Seoul-based gaming technology company that brought 3D replay and Death Cam options to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has seen an increased number of players using the new features. They are currently developing A.I. driven cinematic highlights as well.
Mikonet, a Seoul-based gaming technology company, has shared the usage data for its 3D replay functionality within the little known online multiplayer game titled PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, or PUBG.
According to the company's estimates, more than nine million replay views occur every day. The viewing time per game session is around five minutes on average. Additionally, 70 - 80 percent of players utilise the recently released Death Cam feature. The data comprises Minkonet’s internal research, external tracking sites and a sampling of player usage including streamers and content creators.
"We're helping PUBG further strengthen user engagement through our replay technology" said Gilbert Kim, President & COO of Minkonet. "There is a tremendous amount of raw content just waiting to be unleashed within gaming titles and we're starting to see some great use cases."
Mr Kim's insights make a strong case for 3D replay technology and its role in the overall PUBG experience. Key motivators for engaging with in-game replays include seeking insight into the cause of death, research of other players’ strategies and overall training.
Beyond the in-game environment, players are leveraging the intuitive replay camera system to create and share video highlights and high-quality cinematic shorts across social platforms including Twitch and YouTube, an example of which can be found at the top of this article.
Minkonet’s proprietary gaming technology captures 360-degree high-definition data files, including the dynamic behaviour of each participant during a match. Minkonet is also currently developing artificial intelligence (A.I.) driven cinematic highlights that will automatically mash up key moments of one's game session. In addition, the company is developing a solution powered by A.I. algorithms for the gaming industry.
