'A good start is half a job well done,' goes the old saying, so the same case is with today's shadowdrop, The Rogue Prince of Persia, the game no one saw coming, but since it's here, we must say that it will entertain you very well, especially if you're a fan of rogue-like and rogue-lite games.
Since The Rogue Prince of Persia is a part of the Game Pass subscription, and considering how popular this subscription is among the gamers, it's only natural that, if you're a respective Game Pass owner, you'll be eager to try this game because, why the hell not? One, it is totally free, and two, it is only around 800 MB "heavy", but do not be fooled by the file size of the game; even this small, the game is a true gem; you'll see if you give it a chance.
However, if you want to give this game a chance, it wouldn't be bad to pick up a couple of good tips on how to begin this journey and how to get the most out of it. Luckily, you don't have to discover everything on your own because we are here to provide you with those tips. So without further ado, let's begin.
The Rogue Prince of Persia: Starting Tips and Tricks
- Do a couple of runs to feel the game
Do not burden yourself with the perfect runs right away. Being a rogue-like, The Rogue Prince of Persia is designed in a way that it will kill you many times, and from those deaths, you'll come out wiser and, of course, a better warrior. Also, the first runs are there to teach you the basic mechanics of the game; only when you repeat three or four times will you unlock some features that were not there earlier.
- Do not leave a level until you explore every nook and cranny
The levels in The Rogue Prince of Persia seem linear, but they're anything but. Once you come across multiple ways to proceed, choose any way you like, but be sure to return and see what the other path hides. Sometimes, some crucial upgrades or buffs await you, and you let them slide, knowing those can be decisive elements while fighting a boss or some tough group of enemies.
- Make the most of the fast travel points
Those are not here for no reason. Once you unlock a fast travel point in a level, immediately return to a previous one. Doing so will show you the map of the level and all the places you visited already. Those that are not visited yet will be fogged. Go to the nearest fast travel point and explore all of them to get the most out of a level.
- Check your surroundings
Seriously, this might be the most valuable tip of all. Once you deal with enemies in a section, if you're playing the game using a gamepad, pull the right thumbstick around to see what lies ahead and what beneath or above you because it is impossible to see everything on the screen. The same can be done manipulating a camera using a mouse if you prefer playing using a mouse and keyboard. Doing this will also let you know if you miss something on the screen which couldn't be seen regularly.
- Do not save coins
The coins will let you buy stuff during a run, and once you die, they will disappear. That's why you should spend them all on upgrades, medallions, or any other buffs during a run to ease your experience as much as possible. The purple matter is another story, however. It should be picked up on the run and spent after you die on new weapons or amulets because if you carry over any of it, it will be lost as soon as the new run begins.
- Do not save health flasks
If your health is depleted during a certain level, drink the flask to restore the health because at the start of each level, your flasks will be refilled. Also, at the beginning of each level, you'll be able to restore some health by drinking from the fountain, so make sure to get the most of it whenever the level starts.
And that's pretty much it. One piece of advice, though, that is of crucial importance is the obvious one, but it is very important nonetheless. Do not give up. Every run will give you something new; you'll become better and stronger, and you'll generally get good as you play. So what was the impossible obstacle in one run will later become a laughing matter to you.
