Vale Sangora is a big map, and getting around it efficiently matters. Here's how Shrines, fast travel, and Destroyed Shrines work.

Vale Sangora is a sprawling map. Free exploration doesn't cost you anything on the clock - only quest objectives specifically marked as time-sensitive actually eat into the 30-day countdown - but walking everywhere is still slow on a map this size, so, like most open-world RPGs, The Blood of Dawnwalker gives you a Shrine-based fast travel network to lean on.

Reading Shrine Icons on the Map

Shrines on the Map are colour-coded by state:

  • Grey Shrine icon - the Shrine has not yet been discovered and unlocked.
  • Blue Shrine icon - the Shrine is active and ready to use, or to fast travel to.

This colouring applies to both types of Shrines below, so a quick glance at the map tells you what's usable.

Two Types of Shrines

Shrines work as described above - find one, and it's yours to use for fast travel, upgrading Perks, and skipping time. You don't need to interact with a shrine to unlock it; just walk close enough, and a pop-up will confirm you've discovered a new one.

Destroyed Shrines, however, start out non-functional and involve a quest to restore them before they become usable.

Restoring a Destroyed Shrine

Destroyed Shrines need their heart restored before they can be unlocked as fast travel points. Restoring one is tied to a small quest, picked up by investigating the area around the Shrine.

Follow the clue at the site and it leads to whatever's keeping the Shrine desecrated. This can involve mini quests like following a blood trail away from the Shrine to a den of wolves, then clearing the pack out before the Shrine's heart can be restored. The specifics vary from Shrine to Shrine, but the pattern is the same: find the clue at the Shrine, follow it to the source, deal with whatever's there, then return.

Restoring a Shrine also progresses Time. Once restored, it behaves exactly like any other.

You Have to Be at a Shrine to Fast Travel

If you're out in the middle of a forest with no Shrine nearby, or even standing at one, simply opening the Map and hovering over a Shrine icon won't teleport you anywhere.

Fast travel only works from a Shrine you're physically standing at. Interact with the Shrine while you're there and you can select the Fast Travel option from the menu to jump to any other Shrine you've already discovered.
