Outpost Rush may be one of your fastest ways towards that PvP track reward that can end up being one of the best greatswords you can acquire in New World. Here are the important things to know about it.

Many players will dip their toes for the first time into PvP modes with Season 3 of New World due to the introduction of powerful artefacts such as Serenity and Freedom.

Going into an arena is fairly simple - it is 3v3 and you fight until one team drops dead. With Outpost Rush, however, there are a few rules and things to know about that the game doesn't explain very well.

Here are all the essentials to understanding the game mode.

Outpost Rush map

Most of the things you need to understand about the game mode come from knowing the map and what you can find on it. The map is mirrored, meaning it is completely the same for both teams, with neither one of them at a disadvantage. The only difference is which side of the map you will find Baroness and the Corrupted Portal.

There is a total of three outposts on the map - Luna (Moon), Astra (Star) and Sol (Sun). The more outposts you control, the more points your team will get.

Sol is in the middle of the map and will be contested by both teams most of the time. Luna and Astra are the ones closer to each team's starting base, giving them an advantage to capture them. It is important to fortify and upgrade these outposts as soon as possible.

Each team has easy access to the necessary resources for these upgrades.

The resources

Both teams will need to get Infused Wood, Infused Ore and Infused Hides in order to improve their outposts. Hides can be found by skinning the wolves close to Luna and Astra outposts. Generally, a single kill on the Alpha Wolf and a regular wolf will yield enough Hides to last you an entire game unless you need additional repairs later on. Skinning the Alpha Wolf also gives you a summoning stone for a bear.

Ore can be found in the mine which is clearly visible on the map. It is infested with Lost enemies and one bigger enemy that drops a summoning stone for a wraith. You will need to get through the quarry more than once to fully upgrade an outpost.

Wood can be found close to Luna and Astra but large deposits can be found on the East and West sides of the map. There are a lot of Angry Earth enemies here and no summoning stones.

Outpost upgrades

All outposts can be upgraded with gates and a command tent while Luna and Astra can also have repeater guns, burning oil vats and protective wards. You can see all the upgrade costs in the table below.

UpgradeTier 1Tier 2Tier 3
Gate40 wood40 wood, 40 ore40 wood, 80 ore
Protective Ward60 ore, 60 hide

Command Tent100 ore, 100 wood125 ore, 125 wood150 ore, 150 wood
Repeater50 wood, 25 hide

Oil Vat50 ore, 25 wood

What the upgrades do

Gates are quite obvious - they prevent enemies from entering and capturing the outpost. Each tier adds more health to the gate. You can still hit enemies immediately behind the gate, which is useful when defending an outpost against melee attackers.

Protective Ward prevents the enemies from capturing the outpost until they destroy the ward. It also creates a respawn point in that outpost for your team. It is highly useful and recommended to build immediately after capturing.

Command Tent provides damage buffs to the entire team. Each tier adds three per cent damage to all 20 players.

Repeater is a quick-firing mounted weapon that is useful for dealing with ranged enemies attacking an outpost.

Oil Vat spills hot oil on enemies in front of the gate. Highly powerful against anyone trying to break down the gate.

Shop buffs

On top of the upgrades above, you can use Infused Azoth to purchase items in each outpost's armoury. Zephyr Cakes and Battle Bread are the most useful consumables here, with the former providing a 10 per cent movement buff and the latter five per cent damage dealt and incoming damage absorption for 10 minutes. Remember to consume those foods.

Explosive barrels are mostly useless on top of being expensive as it takes forever to light the fuse and even longer for it to go off. Just get teammates or summon something to help you with breaking down the gates.

You can also purchase Infused Regeneration and Healing potions. These act the same as Tier 5 potions you would bring from the regular gameplay except they expire at the end of the match, meaning you can't take them to the rest of the game. Use them if you want to save the money you would otherwise spend on crafting and buying potions.

Summoning

The aforementioned wraith and bear summoning stones can be used to summon these powerful AI allies close to the gates of each outpost. Find the summoning stone circle and if you can't interact with it, it means another summon is active. You can only activate yours once that summon dies.

In addition to the wraith and bear, you can summon an Elite Brute, which is more powerful than the other two. The Brute stone can be acquired after you clear the enemies at the Corrupted Portal and then use Azoth on the stone pedestal nearby to get the summoning stone in return.

Objectives

The main objective is to hold as many outposts as possible, which will lead you to victory. Secondary objectives include the aforementioned Corrupted Portal and Baroness Hain.

The only significance of the portal is to get the Brute summon which is highly adept at destroying outpost gates, which makes sieges much easier.

Baroness Hain is more important though. Killing her provides a team-wide buff but more importantly - it freezes the enemy score for two and a half minutes. They can hold all three outposts but won't get a single point during that time. Make sure you join teammates to kill her when people start screaming about her spawn timer.
