Mortal Shell 2: How To Obtain Gragu's Shell
Gragu, The Insatiable
Gragu, The Insatiable

Gragu is sitting in a tavern and has absolutely no interest in talking to you. Getting his shell takes persistence, a trip to a nearby dungeon, and a willingness to feed a man something that kills him.

Shells are a core part of Mortal Shell 2's identity. Harbinger, the game's main character, can possess different shells found across the world and use their unique abilities in combat.

To unlock shell locations on the map, head to Zhirelle, the Shellkeeper at Marrow Keep, who can point you toward shells scattered across the world. Most can also be found organically through exploration alone. Doing so via Zhirelle costs Glimpse, a finite resource you'll want to save for shell upgrades. Proxima and Tiel are the exception, with their locations already marked on the map as soon as you arrive at Marrow Keep, so you don't need to spend any Glimpse to reveal them. You'll still need to go find and possess the shells yourself.

Some shells require more than a map marker to actually obtain. Gragu is one of them, and his questline is one of the more unusual shell acquisition methods in the game. If you'd rather not spend the Glimpse on a map marker, here's where to find Gragu's shell.

Step 1: Buy Gragu's approximate location from Zhirelle

If you've purchased the general shell location for Gragu from Zhirelle, the map will point you to the eastern area of Fainweald, where the One Legged Wolf beacon is located. Fast travel there and you'll find the One Legged Wolf Tavern sitting right next to the beacon. Head inside.

Step 2: Persistently talk to Gragu

Inside the tavern, you'll find Gragu sitting at a table with his head down, refusing to engage with anyone. Interacting with him the first time, and for quite a few times after that, will get you nowhere. The trick is to keep spamming the talk prompt without giving up. Eventually, after enough repeated attempts, Gragu will relent and speak to you properly. He tells you that if you want to make him happy, you need to bring him the heart of a god. That is your next objective.

Step 3: Find the Heart of Vatra in the Temple of Vatra

The specific item Gragu wants is the Heart of Vatra. Head east from the One Legged Wolf beacon and pass through the Traverse Gate, which leads into the Temple of Vatra. From there, make your way straight up the stairs. To the left, you'll find the Berserker's Stone - make three offerings there, lighting three candles in the area, to open a nearby chest. The Heart of Vatra itself is located at the top of the temple.

Once you pick it up, the surrounding statues will come to life and the gate behind you will lock, sealing off the way you came. Don't panic - there's a "secret" route just to the right of the gate that loops back around toward the Berserker's Stone area, letting you slip out without having to fight your way through. Once you've made it out, head back to Gragu at the tavern to hand over the heart.

Step 4: Give Gragu the Heart of Vatra

When you interact with Gragu again, a prompt will appear asking whether you want to hand over the Heart of Vatra. Confirm the exchange. Gragu will eat the heart and die from it, which is a predictable outcome for someone consuming a divine organ. The interaction earns you the "Heartless" bronze trophy and, more importantly, leaves Gragu's shell available for Harbinger to possess. Approach the body and inhabit it to add Gragu's shell to your collection.

Handing over the Heart of Vatra triggers the final sequence. Gragu eats it and dies, leaving his shell behind for Harbinger to take.

Quick tip: Do not give up on talking to Gragu after the first few failed attempts. There is no specific number of prompts required to trigger his dialogue, so just keep pressing the interact button and he will eventually respond. Leaving and coming back later does not seem to progress it, so stick with it in one visit.
