MIO: Memories in Orbit is a very challenging Metroidvania Souls-like from Focus Entertainment that will test your nerves and precision on many occasions. As cute as it might look, this game packs a real punch and will test your gaming skills big time, especially with its very challenging combat.
To overcome this problem, you're going to want to make sure that your character is as strong as possible as early as possible in the game, and to do that, you'll have to upgrade Mio's Protective Coat (health bar).
If you want to know how to do it, we've prepared a guide that will explain the process to you step-by-step, so with no further delay, let's begin.
Upgrading Protective Coat through modifier
There are actually two ways of upgrading health in MIO: Memories in Orbit, and both will require a bit of exploration and resource gathering. First, the easy one is to purchase a special modifier from Mel. Mel is a merchant inside the first area of the game, and she will be located just in front of the lift near the first nexus. You'll have to finish tutorial missions for her to take the place in her shop, and when she does, she will have stuff ready for you to buy.
The modifier you want to buy is called Protective Overlay, and it costs 200 Nacre plus one Old Core. Also, keep in mind that you'll need 20 matrix slots to make it active, so if you don't have enough matrix space, consider buying one from Mel as well.
Once you have it, install it inside the Network Gate, and one more health slot will be added to your Protective Coat.
Upgrading Protective Coat by collecting Coating Components
Coating Components are special items found while exploring the game's world, and once you find four of them, they will permanently improve your Protective Coat's capacity. As soon as all four are collected, they will automatically merge, forming one more health bar. When you combine them for the first time, the game will award you with the corresponding trophy too.
Two of them can be bought at Mel's at the beginning of the game. As Mel's shop expands, she will add more of those, so make sure to buy them whenever they are available to upgrade your Protective Coat because as the game progresses, the bosses become stronger, and having enough health should be your priority.
