When you start the Adept quest in the Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Legacy of the Forge DLC, the first step is securing a guild membership to work the trade. Entry requires passing an exam, and there are a couple of conditions: you must come from a respectable family and have some practical blacksmithing experience.
Dialogue choices play a small role here, reputation-wise. If you blurt out something like ‘’Kobyla’s bastard,’’ the guildmaster will pretend he didn’t hear it - the guild doesn’t take kindly to bastards, and trying to argue the point will hurt your reputation. Referring to your father, Martin, known to the guild as Frisky Martin, is a safer route.
You can also state that you have worked at your father’s forge or for Radovan - both options are fine here, the key is showing your credible and solid experience.
Guild Trial answers
After passing the background check, it’s time for the guild trial, which has two parts: a verbal exam and a practical exam. Each attempt costs 200 groschen, so failing can become expensive, especially if you are progressing through the DLC alongside the main game.
If you have little blacksmithing experience, Master Bushek offers a blacksmithing basics book for 100 groschen. Studying it will prepare you for the trial, though the following guide can help you save some money.
The verbal exam consists of three questions, all of which must be answered correctly to move on. There are five possible questions in total, which may appear in any order:
- What is the final step before completing a piece? Quenching.
- Why do blacksmiths whistle while they work? To keep rhythm.
- How can you tell you’ve made progress on a piece? By the shape.
- What is the colour of a properly heated piece? Straw yellow.
- Are sparks while forging a good or bad sign? That depends.
Once you pass the verbal exam, you will need to forge a sword for the practical exam. If you fail the practical portion, you do not need to repeat the verbal exam, but the 200-groschen fee still applies for each practical attempt.
