How to upgrade your gear in Hogwarts Legacy?
Upgrading gear in Hogwarts Legacy is quite a simple process but there are some steps you'll need to do before you actually get to the point where you can do that. Gear upgrading is locked behind a couple of story quests. One of them is "The Room of Requirement" which you can start by talking to Professor Weasley at one point. The second is Deek's story quest called "The Elf, The Nab-Sack and The Loom".
You won't be able to upgrade your gear before you complete these particular missions. Once you finish the second quest, you'll know how to capture animals and conjure a device called Enchanting Loom, which is where you'll be enchanting your gear with magical animals' material and adding traits.
Where to find traits in Hogwarts Legacy?
Traits can be found all over the map. Loot collection chests at Bandit Camps and explore dungeons to get your hands on Traits. You can also get some traits by completing various challenges and quests.
Traits add special attributes to your gear so for example you can add a Trait that increases the damage of the Incendio spell or decreases damage taken from Goblins. Pretty useful stuff.
