While exploring the castle between The Library Annex and The Great Hall, you will come across the bridge with four braziers on the four edges of the bridge. If you use Revelio, you will notice that those braziers are glowing.
Hogwarts Castle bridge puzzle solution
To solve this secret, you'll need one of the fire spells, the earliest of which is Incendio. Use the spell to light each brazier and activate the gears that will allow you to turn the symbols on the braziers.
Examine the ground on the side of the bridge closest to The Library Annex now. You'll see a huge plate with four symbols similar to the ones on the braziers, as well as new symbols matching those four. Memorize the symbols and rotate each brazier to correspond to the sign on the plate.
When the gears are matched, the hatch where the huge plate was placed will open, revealing the ladder underneath it. Climb down the ladder to a drainage system beneath the bridge. When you loot two collectible boxes in this drainage channel, the game will alert you that you have unlocked the secret.
