Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 update has brought massive changes into the game, including map changes, item pool refresh, and new in-game mechanics.
Epic Games adds new in-game mechanics with each new season, allowing players to refresh their gameplay experience. These in-game mechanics are usually tied to new items, such as the mythics and mobility items. By using these mechanics to your advantage, you can make your time in Fortnite easier.
All New Mechanics in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2
Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 is based on Greek mythology. The new in-game mythics and mobility items also focus on the realm of Olympians. These new items feature gimmicky mechanics that you can use to your advantage in Fortnite across all game modes. Here's a look at the new in-game mechanics and how you can use them:
Wings of Icarus
Wings of Icarus is a new mobility-combat hybrid mythic available as loot from Rare Chests and merchant NPCs. Since Chapter 5 Season 2's release, the Wings of Icarus has become a staple in the current meta. It is super effective in combat and mobility.
Using the Wings of Icarus, you can stop yourself from taking any fall damage. If the new mythic is present in your loadout, you can quickly jump from any height and take absolutely zero fall damage, which makes it a very effective safety net for late-game circles. Moreover, you can use the side dash/swipe of the Wings of Icarus to dodge incoming projectiles at the right time.
Moving on to the tips to counter your opponents using the Wings of Icarus, you can quickly bring them to the ground by shooting at them once using any weapon in the game. When a bullet connects with a player using the Wings of Icarus, it instantly brings them to the ground.
Thunderbolt of Zeus
The Thunderbolt of Zeus is the strongest mythic in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2. However, you will be surprised to know that it works better against structures rather than other players. So, if you get your hands on the Thunderbolt of Zeus in Build Mode, you can easily use it to break the builds of your opponents. Moreover, the third thunderbolt emits a large shockwave, which can cause reasonable damage to any player hiding behind a structure.
Although the Thunderbolt of Zeus might seem like an overpowered mythic, you can easily counter it by keeping calm. Any player using the thunderbolt remains stationary in the air, making them vulnerable to all damage. If you see an opponent using the Thunderbolt of Zeus during a fight, just keep shooting at them in the air; they'll usually get downed or killed in a few seconds.
The River of Underworld
The River of Underworld is a part of the new Underworld POI; however, it differs from other water bodies on the map. You'll get a mobility boost by moving through the green river of the Underworld. Under the effect of the green river water, you'll get access to the new Underworld Dash ability. The Underworld Dash allows players to dash through the air by pressing the jump button twice. This is a handy mechanic for traveling around the map faster and evading tricky situations.
Aside from the new Greek items, additional changes have been made to Boss Battles and the EMP grenade. In Chapter 5 Season 2, the boss fights must be initiated by challenging the Gods at their altar. On the other hand, the EMP grenade has received a minor buff. The EMP grenade can now be used for fishing. Throwing an EMP grenade into any water body can flush out fish for healing and replenishing the shield.
