Treyarch have revealed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's biggest update yet is coming next week and Operation Absolute Zero, as it's called, packs a truckload of fresh content, starting with the first post-launch specialist - Zero.
Zero is a "versatile and deadly hacker" that can be picked in multiplayer and Blackout. When in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's regular multiplayer, Zero can disrupt and distract her enemies with hacking tools, "bringing new counteractive measures" to the game.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's new specialist can be unlocked by completing tier 1 in the Black Market. If Treyarch are to be believed, playing around with the hacking toys should be a blast.
Other than extending the already lengthy name, Operation Absolute Zero extends Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's arsenal as well. Three new earnable multiplayer weapons will be available via Contraband tiers in the Black Market - the Daemon 3XB SMG, Swat RFT assault rifle and Secret Santa melee weapon.
Next week's update brings a new featured multiplayer playlist in Blackjack's Gun Game, with many more apparently coming before the year ends. Needless to say, expect a metric ton of camos, reactive camos and reticles as well.
So, deep breath, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Operation Absolute Zero also comes with some major changes to Blackout. "On December 10, we’re setting the stage with several hotly-anticipated updates to the core Blackout experience for all platforms, including our new Armor repair system, audio improvements, SDM and Spitfire weapon balancing, and seasonal changes across the entire map."
Blackout is getting a new destination called Hijacked on 11 December. It's in the northwest quadrant of the map and has been inspired by Treyarch's classic multiplayer map.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is getting the ARAV armoured car, which can be played with a friend thanks to the turret-mounted machine gun. "Players can also drop in as Zero after unlocking her, or as one of the four zombie-killing gladiators from IX after finding and completing the brand-new set of Blackout Zombies Character Missions."
Treyarch are also readying the new and improved Black Market, with new Blackout characters, epic specialist outfits, etc. The dev wanted to make tier progression simpler and more rewarding so Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will now be relying on 100 "clearly defined tiers".
Moreover, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's future updates will be focusing on "Custom Games, Weapon Camos, Stash interface updates on consoles, holiday map decorations, throwable Snowballs, new seasonal Special Event Tiers, in-game promos" and, yes, much more.
Call of Duty's zombie game will be shaken up with new gameplay challenges and the Black Ops Authenticity Stamp, a system that makes sharing and proving results a breeze. Treyarch promised it will track just about everything that can be acquired, consumed or performed.
