Riot Games announced today that the popular live-service shooter Valorant will migrate to Unreal Engine 5 soon. Like other live service games such as Fortnite and PUBG: Battlegrounds, Valorant will finally be making its shift to the latest version of the Unreal Engine.
Riot developers are very excited about what's in store with Unreal Engine 5, especially considering the engine driving Valorant at the moment has been pushed near to the breaking point.
At the same time, tempering player expectations is a balancing act, making sure to let everyone know that no radical changes in visuals or performance are going to be found out of the gate. For the time being, the game will more than likely look similar and generally feel the same.
While this could enable new experiences if Valorant is transitioned to Unreal Engine 5, things are pretty vague. Though Riot Games teased that they have "new gameplay experiences" in the pipeline, these plans remain conceptual for the time being.
For now, developers are focusing on expanding what Valorant has to offer. They have just not disclosed any concrete plans or new features.
All things considered, the shift to Unreal Engine 5 will likely be a move that pays dividends in the long term, although gamers shouldn't expect immediate and drastic shifts in the way the game looks or performs.
This upgrade might make way for some innovations in the future, but for now, the core Valorant experience will remain pretty familiar to fans.
