Treyarch would prefer to expand the existing Blackout map rather than add new ones according to Treyarch studio director David Vonderhaar. He said that this could change in the future but new maps aren't in the studio's plans at the moment.

Treyarch studio director David Vonderhaar has been answering the fan's questions on future updates for Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Blackout. One of the more interesting questions was whether there are plans for brand new maps for the popular battle-royale mode.

Vonderhaar answered that the studio would rather update and expand the existing map than add new ones. "We are on record as saying that we are more interested in adding/subtracting and morphing this map then making new maps," Vonderhaar said.

He also added that it's possible Treyarch decides to add new maps in the future but nothing is imminent and currently the plan is to bring the first major changes to the map since the release. Blackout's map had some minor weekly updates like zombies spawn placement but other than that, there haven't been any major additions to the battle-royale mode.

Judging by Vonderhaar's answer, it looks like Treyarch will try to update the map similar to Epic and their changes on Fortnite map. Fortnite is yet to get the second map but Epic is keeping the things fresh with constant updates and changes. On the other hand, PUBG has taken a different approach and it's releasing brand new maps from time to time but none of them were widely accepted by the players as the original one.

Vonderhaar also talked about other stuff, like how the studio is currently working on the feature which will allow the players to use camos in Blackout. He didn't say if camos unlocked in other Black Ops 4 modes will be available in Blackout though.

One fan asked if it's possible to add day and night cycles to Blackout map which would see the game start at day and finish at night. Vonderhaar answered it's a pretty cool but "hugely complex" feature for games that have photorealistic art and lightning.
