In response to the ever growing fury of the inquisition hordes on the world wide web, Treyarch have defended their decision to ditch Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's singleplayer campaign, claiming it was never on the cards do begin with.
Speaking to , one of Treyarch head honchos, Dan Bunting, revealed that the studio was pretty clear they'll be ditching singleplayer, even at the very start of Black Ops 4 development. He claims Treyarch went for something different, inspired by "how our community was interacting with Black Ops 3".
Apparently, Bunting thinks that "more and more players [are] spending more time with multiplayer and zombies, not just in the game, but out of the game" Just for the record, we don't spend time with zombies outside of games.
Treyarch went for something different this time, including "a lot of things that challenged convention". The team ultimately cherry picked the features and some, like singleplayer, just didn't make the cut.
"The heart and soul of this game is how you play games with friends", he said. As you can imagine, not everyone agrees, especially those who've spent more time on the CoD train than Treyarch. Yeah I said it and I mean it, sue me.
Asked whether he has a message for people who are adamant about skipping the first Call of Duty in their gaming career, Bunting simply said that change is always hard. However, he stressed that Treyarch has never let their fans down and called for a little trust.
He stressed that there are still singleplayer elements, which will give some back story to their Specialists, i.e. heroes, but that's about that. From where we're looking, it seems like a glorified tutorial to learn the ropes. Maybe they should ask Respawn to give 'em some tips?

Of course, it is a bit difficult to maintain trust when Call of Duty seems to be into Overwatch. In fact, the fans have already started taking the mickey, citing the future introductory line for Black Ops 4 as, "hi, I'm Jeff Kaplan from the Call of Duty team."
